An Effective Method for Computing the Least-Cost Path Using a Multi-Resolution Raster Cost Surface Model

Calculating the least-cost path (LCP) is a fundamental operation in raster-based geographic information systems (GIS). The LCP applied to raster cost surfaces, which it determines most cost-effective path. Increasing resolution results longer computation time obtain LCP. This paper proposes method for calculating using multi-resolution surface model enhance computational performance large-scale grids. original progressively downsampled generate grids of decreasing resolutions. Subsequently, determined on low-resolution raster. By performing operations such as filtering directional points and mapping points, final high-resolution can be obtained. enables parallel paths. Therefore, significantly improves efficiency synthetic surfaces with continuous or discrete characteristics, well generated from real terrain datasets, while also providing an end-to-end output. experiments show that 80% are very close LCP, accuracy remaining paths falls within acceptable range. At same time, our greatly solving raster, fulfilling practical application requirements.
